Golf Day IV

Vale of Llangollen Golf Club -  4th June 2010

Yet another wonderful day out for the OWs. Apart from a short, sharp shower the weather was perfect and the course in immaculate condition. Unfortunately, co-organiser Roy McMahon was unable to play due to injury (thumb - don't ask!).

This year we were joined by three "honorary" OWs in John Pickworth, Ken Povey and Stella Reid. Special mention must be made of those who had travelled long distances to attend the golf and/or dinner: Ruth & John Pickworth, along with Gil Jackson had travelled from Kent, as had Mike & Annette Kelly. Graham "Gus" Fraser and wife Jill came south from Lockerbie but the prize, if there was one, would have to go to Mike Povey who came from ........TORONTO!

The competition itself was for pairs playing in a "four ball better ball" format. (For non-golfers this means that the better score from each pair, on each hole, was the one that counted). There was also an individual competition. A prize was also awarded for "nearest the pin" on the par three 14th hole. Congratulations to the winners:

Individual: Keth Steen.    Runner - up: Andy Reid. Nearest the Pin: Ruth Pickworth

Team: Mike Povey & Ken Povey

The prizes were presented by Mike Morris

The Teams

Rob. Davies, Gareth Griffiths, Keith Steen, David Jones.

Mike Povey, Ken Povey, Mike Kelly, Gil. Jackson

John Pickworth, Jane Chowen, Ruth Pickworth, Sue McMahon.

Merv. Davies, Mike Morris, Stella Reid, Andy Reid.

Sue McMahon, Ruth Pickworth and John Pickworth admire Jane Chowen's play whilst posing as "tea-pots"!

Teaching Maths to fifth years was less stressful than a two foot put!

Dave Jones, Keith Steen and Rob. Davies wonder if Gareth Griffiths' tee shot will reach Castell Dinas Bran!

Relaxing before dinner are: Mike Evans, Annette Kelly, Wendy Davies, Mike Kelly, Tony Davies and Mike Morris.

Unfortunately, "Owny" mis-read "jacket & tie required" as "wear a cardigan"!

Mike Morris entertained the guests with a few "Grove Park anecdotes" before presenting the prizes.

Each year co-organisers, Mike Kelly and Roy McMahon say "no more" but, because of  the support that they get from you wonderful Old Wrexhamians (and guests) they say..........

See you next year!

BUT...........

Volunteers WILL be needed to organise in 2012!
